Dignitaries celebrate historic anniversary

An assemblage of elected officials, leaders from the education, legal and business communities and various other dignitaries made their way to Breakey Theatre at Chicago State University last Monday to join in the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education.

The state-sponsored celebration, hosted by the Illinois Commission on Brown v. Board of Education, began with the re-enactment of the oral arguments and historic unanimous decision rendered in 1954 by the nine-member U.S. Supreme Court that ruled "in the field of public education, the doctrine of 'separate but equal' has no place; separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."
