Vic; Police unveil "no flash" speed cameras
Melbourne police have unveiled a fresh no-flash version of the traffic speed camera
which they hope will deter motorists from speeding and save lives in the run-up to Christmas.
Police say the no-flash cameras have been introduced because motorists who see the
flash often warn other drivers.
They say the new cameras are identical to models already in use, but simply use more
sensitive film which doesn't need a flash.
Unveiling the cameras today, Assistant Commissioner of Traffic RAY SHUEY said the cameras
would give no warning of their presence.
Mr SHUEY says the cameras would be out in force in three or four weeks time.
He also says about two million drivers would be tested in some manner during the holiday
road blitz, which started on December 1.
